I live in Waikanae with a view out to the island on the beautiful Kapiti Coast. Studying design at Wellington Design School in 1960s, I have been weaving for more than 40 years, largely self-taught.
In 1983 I spent some time on a Fullbright grant studying with several weavers in the USA. Here in New Zealand I was involved in setting up Artweave Studio in Thorndon, Wellington with two fellow weavers.
I haveve worked with the design programme PCW Fiberworks since the late 1980s and weave on a 16-shaft computer controlled loom. The software is very much a partner in the design process when exploring weave structure interlacements with colour effects. Over the last decade I have enjoyed developing loom controlled networked and interleaved weave structures reflecting organic patterns.
I was involved in weaving for The Lord of the Rings, weaving fabrics for vests and jackets of the hobbits.
I’ve taught locally and nationally in design, colour, and weave structure and my work is represented in private and corporate collections.
