Sue Weir

Sue Weir is a tapestry weaver based in Wellington, who, after graduating with a Diploma of Art (Tapestry) in 2011 from South West TAFE, Warrnambool (Australia), has been honing her skills alongside a full-time role in admin. Exploring topics she is passionate about – primarily environmental – she hopes that her work will strike a chord to make a difference.

On a personal level, Sue delves into the emotive properties of clothing – layers of memories held within, and sometimes loss. Her works vary in size and she often uses a shaped technique to enhance concepts. Ideas are developed through research, photography, drawing and painting, and recently she has experimented with a freehand approach on the loom. Amongst her achievements, Sue was highly commended in theIrene Davies Emerging Artist’s Award 2015 (Australia), and awarded the Mason Charitable Trust Scholarship in 2015 (Creative Fibre, NZ).
