I have been weaving tapestry for about 25 years. In 1994, with the assistance of a Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council grant for overseas study, I attended West Dean College near Chichester, UK, and over the years, I have attended workshops by leading tapestry artists, Lynne Curran, Archie Brennan and just recently, Marcel Marois.

I have worked with leading NZ artists – one of these tapestries being part of the Te Papa (National Museum), collection. I exhibit regularly in New Zealand and overseas and have tapestries in private collections in the USA, UK, Japan and New Zealand. I have held two successful solo exhibitions – ‘Windows of the Soul’ at the NZ Academy Galleries, Wellington, NZ in 2011, and ‘The Song of Love’ at Minerva Gallery, Wellington, NZ in 2014.

I interpret my designs from photographs, drawings, paintings and prints which are put together as collages to reveal a narrative. Through the use of multiple fine yarns, I develop colours, shades and textures, to create a sense of light and atmosphere. I am inspired by the human form, ancient mythology, legend and the art of the Pre-Raphaelites. Working to convey an ethereal quality, I hope that viewers will read personal meaning into my works, discovering ideas or attributes for themselves.

I express human emotions and experiences in my work and use the human figure and images from nature to convey a contemplative tranquility.
